Australia is the sixth largest country in the world, approximately the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and twice the size of Europe. Australia boasts not only beautiful beaches, crystal blue waters and native rainforest but is also home to numerous cities each with their own unique and vibrant atmosphere. Popular cities to visit in Australia include Adelaide, Melbourne, the nation’s capital, Canberra and Sydney.
Top attractions to visit within Australia include The Taronga Zoo, located in Sydney; this is the nation’s leading zoological garden and is home to Australia’s finest collection of native animals and diverse collection of exotic species. The zoo is located along Sydney’s waterfront offering visitors stunning views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. An increasingly popular exhibit within the zoo is the Great Southern Oceans exhibit; this opened recently and features an array of animals such as Australian Sea Lions, New Zealand Fur Seals, Penguins and Pelicans.
Just a 90 minute drive from Sydney is The Blue Mountains, a stunning collection of dramatic cliffs and deep canyons. The Blue Mountains was declared a World Heritage Park in 2000 and features a diverse collection of plant and animal life and natural landscapes of beauty and tradition. Whilst here why not enjoy one of the many activities on offer from bush walking to antique shopping.
Next stop is Cairns in the tropical north of the country. Cairn’s enjoys a mild climate throughout the year and provides the ideal base for exploring the Great Barrier Reef, an explosion of colour and tropical marine life. Why not make the most of the warm weather by enjoying some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Australia is home to over 10,000 beaches including Byron Bay in New South Wales, The Gold Coast in Queensland and what is arguably Australia's most well known beach, Bondi. Bondi Beach is a Mecca for tourists, lifesavers, surfers and sun worshippers. Bondi is a definitive example of Sydney's city beach culture being only a few minutes’ drive from the city.
Australia is well known for its cultural diversity and this is evident within the bountiful dining establishments throughout the country. These offer a diverse and international selection of food, drink from Asian and Mediterranean to African or traditional Australian fare. Australia’s Shopping centres follow the same culturally diverse theme offering clothes, gifts, jewellery and antiques from international brands in addition to famed Australian products such as Ugg Boots and Opals.
