Grasmere Lodge Canterbury - Description
High in the Southern Alps, grand pastoral stations straddle rugged ranges. Most dramatic is historic Grasmere Lodge where 600 hectares of Grasmere Station lie between bush clad slopes. The stone homestead is the original, built in 1858 and subsequently extended. Now 12 individually-decorated suites accommodate up to 24 guests in utmost comfort. Whether relaxing in the conservatory or having a drink by the fire in the library or large lounge, Grasmere Lodge is a glorious high country retreat. This was the setting in which a previous owner, David MacLeod, wrote the books that made Grasmere famous. In the dining room, you will discover exceptional cuisine and a wine list to match. Gin-clear streams and lakes challenge the fly-fisherman while deer and wild boar roam the native beech forest. This kingdom in the hills provides a holiday without equal.

Overview
Grasmere Lodge is in the Southern Alps of the South Island, 90 minutes drive west of Christchurch. State Highway 73 is in good condition with little traffic and the lodge is well sign posted. A complimentary transfer is available by prior arrangement from the Tranzalpine Express Train stop at Cass.

Directions
| North | - | From Nelson (6 hours) travel down SH6 Buller Gorge to Greymouth, then south on SH6 to Kumara Junction. Turn onto SH 73. From Blenheim (5 hours) either go down SH1 to Rangiora and then towards Sheffield on SH72. Turn right onto SH73, or southwest on SH63 to Westport, south to Kumara Junction, then left on SH73. | | East | - | Take state highway 73 west from Christchurch. The hotel is approximately 90 minutes drive from the city. | | West | - | Turn onto state highway 73 at Kumara Junction. Go over Arthurs Pass. Lodge is 30 km beyond Arthurs Pass Village. Policies
Cancel Policy - A reservation must be cancelled 31 days prior to 6:00 PM on day of arrival for a full refund of deposit or so that the guest credit card is not charged for 25% of stay.
