Italy is located at the heart Mediterranean, separated from the rest of Europe by the vast sweep of the Alps. The country is a peninsula, shaped very much like a boot. It has a population size of 57.5 million and covers a land area of more than 301,268 square kilometer or approximately 116,320 square miles. In southern Italy, the transportation hub is in Rome and Naples. Most International Airline services will operate to these two cities. Coastal roads and rail links are good, but transport link are generally slower and less efficient than that in the northern region. There are two trans-Apennine motorways that offer the quickest cross-country routes. The two off-shores islands, Sicily and Sardinia, are connected to the mainland via ferries links.
For many centuries, this country had produced many famous Italians that create a huge impact to the modern world that we live in today. Their legacies are colorful and captivating, mesmerizing scores of people throughout the world. And the world most well known conqueror, Roman general Julius Caesar (whose Roman Legionary march across the Europe), hails from Rome. And who can forget Christopher Columbus, the famous explorer was born in Genoa.
