The island of Ireland is separated from the Great Britain by the Irish Sea and has a land mass area of about 84,450 square kilometers or 32,600 square miles. Until today, Ireland is a divided island with religion and history created two hostile communities. One community is in the North while the other in the South.
Southern Island forms the Republic of Ireland that takes up to 80 per cent of the land and has a population of 3.9 million people. The capital of Republic is in Dublin. There are good international connections and nearly one of third of Republic population lives there, making the city rather congested.
The North Ireland as part of United Kingdom covers the rest. There are 1.7 million people living there. For hotel listing of Northern Ireland cities, please visit United Kingdom page.
While the two communities were at war with each other previously, the IRA ceasefire of 1997 and subsequent Good Friday Agreement bring hope of a peaceful settlement to resolve their differences.
Ireland has a very rich tradition of storytelling that embraces a folk heritage abounds with myth and superstitions. Once of the most famous mythical figure brought alive by their stories must be the existence of little people call leprechaun. Legend has it that if you caught one of these, he would bring you to a crock of gold. But take your eye off him and he would vanish into thin air.
