Germany is located in the center of Europe, flank by the North Sea, the Baltic Seas and the Alps. The biggest fair celebrated in Germany is the Oktoberfest in Munich. This is one of the biggest folk fairs in Europe. Started in 1810, it has grown into an enormous event. Chief attraction of Oktoberfest is beer. It is drunk in vast quantity, in marquees erected by breweries. Ceremonial opening of the first barrel of beer marks the opening of Oktoberfest with huge procession passing through the town. The fair finishes 16 days later on the first Sunday of October.
