This is Thailand's latest and most exciting diving area.
Trang is located in the south of Krabi and Lanta. Many of the dive sites here
are world-class. Unlike the water around nearby Phi Phi Islands group, the
water here is always crystal clear. On a normal day visibility is about 25
meters and it is not uncommon to have visibility of up to 40 meters. To know

The dive sites in Trang is dived into four areas, Koh Ha, Koh Rok, Hin Daeng
and Hin Muang. Among them, Hin Deang and Hin Muang are probably the most famous
and frequently dived sites. Diving in this area is filled with great
excitements. The health and number of reef inhabitants are exceptional. Large
schools and different varieties of pelagics comes here to feed so often that
they seem like residents of these water, thus encounters with pelagics is
almost certain here.
The first few adventurers that came Trang to dive had been richly rewarded.
Many divers that had set foot here had commented that the dives sites here are
better than those found Koh Similan and Koh Surin Marine Park. For that, these
must be the best diving sites found in Thailand.

Dive Sites around Trang

Koh Ha
This is a group of small islands, lying southwest of Koh Lanta, separated by
channels over 50 meters deep. The water here is quite clear, visibility often
exceed 25 meters. The biggest of these islands is Ko Ha Yai, which has a series
of caves and caverns for divers to explore. Most of these caverns have big
entrances to allow alot of natural light to enter the caves. Most caves have
stalactites hanging 30 meters above the water.
The Emerald Cave is one good cavern to explore. During high tide, divers can
swim through a large cavern underwater and emerge in a lagoon with a beach and
its own jungle. The lagoon and jungle are surrounded by tall cliffs, so the
cavern is the only way out. The create a wonderful experience for divers that
come here.

Koh Rok
Koh Rok consists of two islands in the southeast of Koh Ha. The two islands Koh
Rok Nai and Koh Rok Noi have some of the best beaches in Thailand. With no
inhabitants on these islands, taking a break from diving on the beaches provide
a wonderful breather for divers.
These highlights of diving in these sites are the sighting of Blacktip sharks
and hawksbill turtle. The sharks patrol these reefs regularly and hawksbill
turtles can be seen feeding on soft corals.

Hin Mouang
This site is situated about 25km southwest of Koh Rok. Hin Mouang means purple
rock. This rock is completely submerge under the water. It is purple because of
there an abundance of purple anemones growing on the tip of it most prominent
pinnacle. The water here is so clear that visibility can reach more than 40
meters. There are a number of caverns and narrow valleys on this rock.
Residents of these valleys include Painted Rock Lobsters, cleaner shrimps, reef
crabs and giant moral eels. These valleys are fill with Gorgonian Fan and
Dendronephthya Soft Tree corals. Whale sharks visit this site on a regular
basis as do the manta rays.
Off the rock, full bodied and powerful Grey reef sharks patrol the water. You
can swim with them but this experience is definitely not for the faint hearted.

Hin Daeng
This site is only a few hundred meters from Hin Mouang. Unlike Hin Mouang which
is completely submerged underwater, Hin Daeng protrudes the water by about 3
meters during low tide. Hin Daeng means red rock. This rock is red because of
the red color Dendronephthya Soft Tree Coral that grows on its slopes and
walls. There is a great variety of marine life around this rock. Sharks
encounters include the Grey Reef shark and Leopard Shark. There are also
octopuses, cuttlefish, lionfish, scorpionfish, stonefish, moray eel, mantis
shrimps, sting ray, coral groupers, pufferfish and sea kraits all vying for
your attention.

Best Time to Dive in Trang
The best time to visit Trang is during the dry season which starts from October
to May, however diving is possible year round.

How to Get to Trang
Krabi Airport is used by travellers to visit both Krabi and Koh Lanta. There
